LIFE OF AN ENTERPRENEUR: HOW TO MAKE A MAJOR BREAK INTO THE SKINCARE INDUSTRY WITH LUNA AFRIYIE OWNER OF ESOCARE SKINS PRODUCTS

What inspired the birth of Esocare? Tell us your story

I realized that I was unhappy, I had reached a turning point in my life and I felt like I wasn’t living life with meaning, this was in 2013 when I thought to myself that life has to be better than a half-hearted attempt!

How were you able to navigate your path and create a thriving company?

It was after I had a wake up call, I knew how I was going to get myself back on track. I needed to get away from the prejudice and conformity that life can bring as a 29 year old female of African descent. I left my fiance a few weeks before the wedding, he was the safe option, my core was telling me for a long time that I needed to put myself and aspirations first… I cut the ties, took a pen to pad and planned my rebirth, so to speak.

The quest for more, led me on self development courses such as NLP and I became an NLP practitioner. I was also overweight and riddled with ailments, I took a new approach, I studied naturopathic health and herbal-ism and this was the start of ‘Esocare‘ it was the awakening and renewal of myself ‘the self’ that then made me realize that I wanted to also share my discovery and the tools I had used on myself with a wider audience.

How did you make Esocare stand out from other brands in your niche?

I honestly believe that each of us deserve an awakening of mind, body and soul. Esocare is all about being the change you want to see, through mind, body and soul. Everything I promote, teach and sell within my community is done with love. For me, it has always been about helping others blossom. I had zero self esteem yet I was around friends, family and lovers who adored me, I couldn’t see why… Esocare is about helping others to realize that your biggest asset is You!

Esocare products are made with organic and natural ingredients. Take us through the production, design and general planning process of Esocare products

The products that are currently sold through Esocare, have been used as part of my healing and development process. So I can give each customer an honest review. I make the body butter/oils by hand and whip them for a smoother touch to the skin.
The products that are not made, are curated with love and a lot of thought goes into the products sold, the messages shared on our platform and also through the detox, weight loss, wellness plans and NLP sessions that are offered through Esocare.

 

Who is the ideal Esocare customer and what is your best selling product right now?

Esocare has a mixed and wide audience. Our skincare products are food grade, you can cook with them! You can also use the Shea Butter on a babies nappy rash… I have no intention of comprising the products sold. The ideal customer for Esocare is anyone reading this interview, their family and friends also. Our brand has something needed by everyone who feels that they need to dig deeper into health, look at limiting beliefs, ways to deal with children and their health, weight loss, concentration and skin care.

All products do well, a lot of customers buy the Coconut oil, Shea Butter and Black Soap in one purchase as all three items can be used in conjunction with one another.

The Alchemy Journals are also sell out well, and is a brilliant  tool for manifesting your desires and for also doing mindset work across all areas of life.

 

What role has social media played in the advancement of your company?

It’s been a brilliant platform and it’s opened the door to those who are like-minded and to those who also like me would love to change their lives or use better products on their skin and eat in a way that is respectful to the body.

Tell us more about the Esocare Detox Plan and Wellness Assessment range.

The Esocare Detox and Wellness Assessment range is a one to one coaching program that tackles health and mental blocks. I mentor and work with clients on their underlying causes and look at sustainable naturopathic and holistic ways to reach their goals.

 

What sets Esocare apart from other skincare companies in UK and around the world?

Passion, Purpose and lastly Esocare is more than just a skincare brand; it’s a wellness brand. This is what sets us apart.

 

How did you brand and market your business to the point where it is right now?

It wasn’t really intentional, I shared my journey on Facebook with friends who would listen and took up blogging. I then decided to start a page and i got a positive response. Over time I worked on the right logo, thought about my objectives and decided that I didn’t want to come across as a corporate brand. I wanted to be the brand and the message just flowed like that really, we are more structured now and I have some people helping me, but I needed to ensure they were the right people to get involved with Esocare and I’m glad they are on board! Every single party involved shares my passion for the brand and have also been awakened and renewed in their own way.

 Tell us about your experience, challenges and lessons you’ve learnt so far.

Lol so many challenges! That’s the beauty of life. However I have learned that the only thing that is constant is change and the little things we do for the positive consistently create bigger things that create our life goals. I have also learned that it’s okay to be yourself.

 

Advice for budding entrepreneurs and those struggling to succeed in the startup space and the same niche as you.

Ah!! Purpose is key in everything. Ask to be shown your purpose and calling, ask for the angle that you need to use to share your vision, and gradually it will become clearer. Your intuition will tell you, and don’t rush because you will naturally get the answers from within. Be practical and if it means starting out with the £50 you have in your account saved and making it work by bootstrapping, then do it. It’s not a race and Rome was not built in a day.

 

You’re all about total holistic wellness that involves the mind, body and soul. Given your busy schedule as an entrepreneur, how do you relax, revitalize and stay inspired?

I limit my TV intake, I schedule time to reflect on my thoughts and to relax through meditation. If I’m on the go, I do walking mediation – no phone, just taking time to think whilst feeling the wind or air on my skin and admiring the sky. I always have lots of fruit and limit my refined sugar it helps to keep the energy stable.

What is your daily beauty routine?

I use Shea Butter on my face and to remove my makeup, I wash with black soap.

I like the kingfisher toothpaste brand it has aloe vera and it’s very soothing.

I soak in Himalayan and Epsom salt baths once a week in a candle room.

 

From your experiences thus far what advice would you give to someone looking to start a beauty/skincare business?

I would say just go for it, no time like the present. You will learn so much when you just give it a go, and it’s okay to be flexible around your plans; it’s all part of the journey.

 

What should we expect from your company in 5-10 years’ time?
