We Africans have always been known for our bold and colorful disposition in everything fashion, and while that perception is gradually shifting, it still remains a factor in distinguishing most African-inspired brands. For summer, we can’t help but acknowledge the allure of bold jewelry crafted by two of our top favorite accessories designers.
Anita Quansah’s work is always captivating. She has never shied away from crafting conspicuous articles of accessory from bold head adornments to feathered neckpieces. Her Spring Summer 2016 collection feature elements we have long come to associate as part of her aesthetics; handmade, and inspired by her mixed heritage, combining the cultures of Ghana and Nigeria. One rare addition to this collection include large hoop earrings adorned with colored beads, which will serve as the perfect staple for many accessory aficionados.
Bold jewelry, brave women is Mary Pichulik’s mantra. For Autumn/Winter 16, named woman, she speaks of her inspirations, linking the elemental forces of natural wonders such as volcanoes and mountains to powerful heroines of the 1970s. Angela Davis, Pam Grier, and Letta Mbuli, she states, all inspire a collection of Talisman and chokers formed mostly from Lava Stone and Agate Carnelian.
