An Editor’s Natural Hair Guide To Frizz Control

Do you follow any natural hair on instagram accounts? How many pictures have you written ‘GOALS!!’ under? Don’t be ashamed, I’ve had my fair share of hair lust since, and even before, I started my natural hair journey. As I mentioned before, I’m a bit of a lazy natural, but I still try my best to get my curls as popping

Unfortunately, my hair is a frizzy mess. Even when I try and get some curls to cooperate, it still bears some semblance to a bird’s nest. Eventually, I decided it was time for some frizz control. I invested in a couple of products and, so far, I can say the results have been pretty good.

My Frizz Control Squad

L’Oreal Paris Elvive Smooth Intense Shampoo

I got this shampoo because the name specifically called out to me at a time in need. I was also drawn to the colour and packaging because golden child. It’s a great smelling shampoo, and you don’t have to use a whole lot of it because it lathers pretty well. After a wash, my hair definitely feels and looks a little bit more curly than frizzy. If I’m being honest though, it’s not a noticeable difference if you aren’t looking for one.

Shea Moisture Smooth & Repair Nourishing Hair Masque

Shea Moisture products have been keeping hair on fleek for the longest imaginable time. Again, I bought this masque thanks to its very specific labeling. After a wash, I use this to deep condition. It’s very light, so it was a bit difficult to control the measure i scoop and use on my hair at first. Eventually, I got the hang of it though. I put my hair in sections, apply generous amounts of this, and cover with a shower cap for about 30 minutes before detangling. Definitely helps with frizz control, and leaves my hair super soft and fluffy.

Olori Damage Be Gone Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment

For a while I used only the two previous products to keep my hair in check. That was until I got this in a goodie bag and an event and decided to give it a try. On it’s own, this product is great because it actually does fiz dry hair – which is a huge part of why my hair is frizzy. Also, the smell is very strong. It’s herbal, but also very intoxicating. I decided to start mixing it with my shea moisture masque when deep conditioning so I the frizzz knows I mean business.

Cantu Argan Oil Leave-In Conditioning Cream

After washing and deep conditioning, you have to style your hair, yeah? Most people say to use oil to help control frizzy hair, but I really don’t like it when my hair is extra oily. This conditioner is the right balance between moisture and oil. Plus, it’s another product in my squad with argan oil – which has been proven to battle frizziness. It’s really thick, so a healthy helping spread evenly around the scalp, strands and ends will have your hair shiny, smooth and bouncy.

The ultimate key to frizz control is to keep your hair hydrated as much as possible.

When your hair becomes dry, it breaks and develops split ends, which can all contribute to frizzy, untameable hair. Another useful tip is brushing your hair before you wash and deep condition. Doing it this way helps the products you’re using distribute more evenly.
